update on the octuplets

As David Gray says in one of his songs "my oh my"

LOS ANGELES – The woman who gave birth to octuplets this week conceived all 14 of her children through in vitro fertilization, is not married and has been obsessed with having children since she was a teenager, her mother said.

Angela Suleman told The Associated Press she was not supportive when her daughter, Nadya Suleman, decided to have more embryos implanted last year.

"It can't go on any longer," she said in a phone interview Friday. "She's got six children and no husband. I was brought up the traditional way. I firmly believe in marriage. But she didn't want to get married."

Nadya Suleman, 33, gave birth Monday in nearby Bellflower. She was expected to remain in the hospital for at least a few more days, and her newborns for at least a month.

A spokeswoman at Kaiser Permanente Bellflower Medical Center said the babies were doing well and seven were breathing unassisted.

While her daughter recovers, Angela Suleman is taking care of the other six children, ages 2 through 7, at the family home in Whittier, about 15 miles east of downtown Los Angeles.

She said she warned her daughter that when she gets home from the hospital, "I'm going to be gone."

Angela Suleman said her daughter always had trouble conceiving and underwent in vitro fertilization treatments because her fallopian tubes are "plugged up."

There were frozen embryos left over after her previous pregnancies and her daughter didn't want them destroyed, so she decided to have more children.

Her mother and doctors have said the woman was told she had the option to abort some of the embryos and, later, the fetuses. She refused.

Her mother said she does not believe her daughter will have any more children.

"She doesn't have any more (frozen embryos), so it's over now," she said. "It has to be."

Nadya Suleman wanted to have children since she was a teenager, "but luckily she couldn't," her mother said.

"Instead of becoming a kindergarten teacher or something, she started having them, but not the normal way," he mother said.

Her daughter's obsession with children caused Angela Suleman considerable stress, so she sought help from a psychologist, who told her to order her daughter out of the house.

"Maybe she wouldn't have had so many kids then, but she is a grown woman," Angela Suleman said. "I feel responsible and I didn't want to throw her out."

Yolanda Garcia, 49, of Whittier, said she helped care for Nadya Suleman's autistic son three years ago.

"From what I could tell back then, she was pretty happy with herself, saying she liked having kids and she wanted 12 kids in all," Garcia told the Long Beach Press-Telegram.

"She told me that all of her kids were through in vitro, and I said 'Gosh, how can you afford that and go to school at the same time?"' she added. "And she said it's because she got paid for it."

Garcia said she did not ask for details.

Nadya Suleman holds a 2006 degree in child and adolescent development from California State University, Fullerton, and as late as last spring she was studying for a master's degree in counseling, college spokeswoman Paula Selleck told the Press-Telegram.

Her fertility doctor has not been identified. Her mother told the Los Angeles Times all the children came from the same sperm donor but she declined to identify him.

Birth certificates reviewed by The Associated Press identify a David Solomon as the father for the four oldest children. Certificates for the other children were not immediately available.

The news that the octuplets' mother already had six children sparked an ethical debate. Some medical experts were disturbed to hear that she was offered fertility treatment, and troubled by the possibility that she was implanted with so many embryos.

Others worried that she would be overwhelmed trying to raise so many children and would end up relying on public support.

The eight babies — six boys and two girls — were delivered by Cesarean section weighing between 1 pound, 8 ounces and 3 pounds, 4 ounces. Forty-six physicians and staff assisted in the deliveries.

Yeah for Michael Steele!

I heart Michael Steele as many know. Today he was given the position of chairman of the Republican National Commitee! I'm so super excited and think he will definetly be able to get our party on the "right" track!

Michael Steele Pictures, Images and Photos

I HEART THESE BOYS!!!

I've been on youtube a few times only to look something up quick. But today I wanted to see if I could find a video of a song that Michael Stipe sings with Coldplay. Well I found this and OMG! It's not the one I first intended on finding. I know that I could become seriously addicted to youtube watching music videos non-stop. Michael Stipe first came into my life when I was in 5th grade and has never left! I think he is one of the hottest men that roam the earth...but then came Chris Martin. Again OMG both of them on one stage how's a girl to breath!

I thought this video was super fascinating and worth sharing with others!

Pelosi is a joke!

Ms. Pelosi thinks that we should give more money to family planning to help our economy so we won't have as many babies born. As far as I know there is always a way for kids who want to have sex to get free birth control and they don't need to have the babies in the first place. Kids can go to their health nurse at school or a family planning place to get contraceptives. I have a great idea...how about kids practice abstinence??? Us giving more money to family planning is just a liberals way of getting more money for abortions which I'm already funding and don't wish to fund anymore money towards!

Eight is Enough!

http://cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/up/player/popup/?cl=11732747

The story that the above link leads to is of the 2nd octuplets born and to all make it. YIKES! 8 babies all at once! They won't say if she took fertility but I'd bet she did...(One small reason I choose not to do fertility). I feel for that couple and every age that comes upon them from the terrible two's to teenagers!

Now they came out today saying she has 6 other children and lives with her parents. There is no mention of a father in the picture but it's said she is fairly young. I cannot wait to here more about this story.

Abortion is not ok Obama!

I just read this and I have a frog in my throat and tears coming down. I cannot beleive this is happening to our country. I really have no more to say about this because I'm in a state of shock we would vote in a president who we knew was for abortion. I really hoped for the best but I cannot anymore!

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama on Friday struck down the Bush administration's ban on giving federal money to international groups that perform abortions or provide abortion information — an inflammatory policy that has bounced in and out of law for the past quarter-century. Obama's executive order, the latest in an aggressive first week reversing contentious Bush policies, was warmly welcomed by liberal groups and denounced by abortion rights foes.

The ban has been a political football between Democratic and Republican administrations since GOP President Ronald Reagan first adopted it 1984. Democrat Bill Clinton ended the ban in 1993, but Republican George W. Bush re-instituted it in 2001 as one of his first acts in office.

A White House spokesman, Bill Burton, said Obama signed the executive order, without coverage by the media, late on Friday afternoon. The abortion measure is a highly emotional one for many people, and the quiet signing was in contrast to the televised coverage of Obama's Wednesday announcement on ethics rules and Thursday signing of orders on closing the Guantanamo Bay prison camp and banning torture in the questioning of terror suspects.

His action came one day after the 36th anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court ruling in Roe v. Wade that legalized abortion.

The Bush policy had banned U.S. taxpayer money, usually in the form of Agency for International Development funds, from going to international family planning groups that either offer abortions or provide information, counseling or referrals about abortion as a family planning method.

Critics have long held that the rule unfairly discriminates against the world's poor by denying U.S. aid to groups that may be involved in abortion but also work on other aspects of reproductive health care and HIV/AIDS, leading to the closure of free and low-cost rural clinics.

Supporters of the ban say that the United States still provides millions of dollars in family planning assistance around the world and that the rule prevents anti-abortion taxpayers from backing something they believe is morally wrong.

The ban has been known as the "Mexico City policy" for the city a U.S. delegation first announced it at a U.N. International Conference on Population.

Both Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, who will oversee foreign aid, had promised to do away with the rule during the presidential campaign. Clinton visited the U.S. Agency for International Development earlier Friday but made no mention of the step, which had not yet been announced.

In a move related to the lifting of the abortion rule, Obama is also expected to restore funding to the U.N. Population Fund (UNFPA), probably in the next federal budget. Both he and Clinton had pledged to reverse a Bush administration determination that assistance to the organization violated U.S. law known as the Kemp-Kasten amendment.

The Bush administration had barred U.S. money from the fund, to contending that its work in China supported a Chinese family planning policy of coercive abortion and involuntary sterilization. UNFPA has vehemently denied that it does.

Congress had appropriated $40 million to the UNFPA in the past budget year but the administration had withheld the money as it had done every year since 2002.

Organizations and lawmakers that had pressed Obama to rescind the Mexico City policy were jubilant.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said the move "will help save lives and empower the poorest women and families to improve their quality of life and their future."

"Today's announcement is a very powerful signal to our neighbors around the world that the United States is once again back in the business of good public policy and ideology no longer blunts our ability to save lives around the globe," said Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Population Action International, an advocacy group, said that the policy had "severely impacted" women's health and that the step "will help reduce the number of unintended pregnancies, abortions and women dying from high-risk pregnancies because they don't have access to family planning."

Anti-abortion groups and lawmakers condemned Obama's decision.

"I have long supported the Mexico City Policy and believe this administration's decision to be counter to our nation's interests," said Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky.

"Coming just one day after the 36th anniversary of the tragic Roe v. Wade decision, this presidential directive forces taxpayers to subsidize abortions overseas — something no American should be required by government to do," said House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio.

Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind., called it "morally wrong to take the taxpayer dollars of millions of pro-life Americans to promote abortion around the world."

"President Obama not long ago told the American people that he would support policies to reduce abortions, but today he is effectively guaranteeing more abortions by funding groups that promote abortion as a method of population control," said Douglas Johnson, legislative director of the National Right to Life Committee.

Republican girl living in a liberal world

I saw this on Bill O'Reily last night and probably the only place I would see it. Heaven forbid the rest of the liberal media would show this. We all know it would be pasted everywhere and we couldn't get away from it if this was a white man singing like this. Grant had mentioned but goes along with so many other things...could you imagine McCain getting in and someone singing about their president is white and so on. And by the way Obama has a white mother in case some want to forget that.
WHAT A DISGRACE!
I have fears of Obama and what we don't know about him which is nothing! Stuff that has come out is not the stuff I'd go out and vote for for the U.S. But if I were to go around saying Obama should die and he's hitler and so on I'd be labeled racist and a horrible person. Well how about all the people labeled as just when they would say this stuff about Bush? I'd be told to have respect because he's my president by the same people who showed little of no respect to Bush. I really have a hard time living in this day in age where I have to always watch what I say because I'm a republican and far left loons get away with saying and doing anything!

Take care of the skin your in

pretty risky

Eliminate all harmful chemicals from your personal-care products. Become a habitual label reader. One simple rule: If you wouldn’t put it in your mouth, don’t put it on your skin (the largest organ in the body, and a very porous surface). Finally, opt for minimal packaging, and use refillable containers whenever possible.

I cannot say that I would but my personal care products in my mouth but I do make concious decisions when buying them..except our generic use of body wash. As I was cleaning yesterday I thought to myself..."most anything I'm using I'd use in food." This made me especially happy when looking out for my babies.

My thoughts on today's events

On a positive note I thought that everything was gorgeous! People coming together for a historic event down to everyones attire. I thought Michelle Obama's dress was gorgeous. I do think their girls are so super cute too! The composition played right before the oath was gorgeous and well done!
I thought Obama would give a speech to remember or some kind of line I could quote someday in an inaguration day quote but I didn't get anything out of it. I've heard that from other news programs as well.
I don't like the idea when Rick Warren did the prayer (which I thought was phenomenal) Obama didn't say the lords prayer which struck me as not ok but I wasn't surprised knowing what we know about him and his wonderful Christian ways!
I know that there are all kinds of numbers flying around but one I've heard is 150 million which was spent on his inaguration! If he's all about the little people and sharing the wealth why didn't he do something simple yet wonderful like past presidents and share some of his own wealth? A question I feel I'll be asking myself a lot in the next 4 years.
In reality we know nothing about this man and things we do know are all red flags. I do hope that he does well because I live in this country and it would be horrible to wish him bad. Grant and I while praying at dinner tonight did say a prayer for our new president. I do hope to respect him and my fellow republicans do and don't stoop to the liberals level of hating and not respecting our leader. So that's all I have to say about today's events.

Bush is not to blame!

I have a really hard time with hearing people say anything about Bush ruining our economy. C'mon people! Do you really beleive he has that much power to ruin the entire economy! Here's the deal folks; it's because we want everything and want it now and live beyond our means that people have unbelievable credit card debts, bought to much house than they could afford and so on. It's not Bush's fault people buy to much house and now need to forclose because they can't hack the bill every month. If a bank gives you 500,000 to buy a house and you can only afford 200,000 it's your responsibility to realize that and not let a bank try to get you into more you can afford. Same with credit cards. When did it come to that we need everything nice and now and that our children cannot live without this and that and we cannot live without this gadget or that new dining table set. Now I'm speaking from experience because Grant and I have gotten in trouble with all the above but I do not blame Bush for that nor do I blame anyone but our ownselves.

Adios, Au Revoir plastic bags!

bag nationSturdy

reusable totes for groceries are a must, but so is a versatile, take-everywhere bag for errands and impulse buys on the way home that folds up to a couple inches square and can live in your purse, glove compartment, or coat pocket. Practice saying, “I’ve got my own bag, thanks.”

This is one thing I've gotten really good at. Even the other day Grant and I went to the grocery store and we were getting ready to check out without our own bags. Grant and I both said to one another "I'll go get the bags out of the trunk." I did and felt a lot better than taking yet another plastic bag. The big thing for us was just to put the bags in the trunk and keep them there. When I keep them in the house I tend to forget to grab them.

The many blows to Lola's head part 1

Little Lola started out with a tough break. When she was only about 2 weeks old she had a candle opera fall on her head and the people watching over her didn't think she would make it...but obviously she did. We got her when she was 8 months old. Since then she's had a few more bumps including the terrifying one last night! Once I was giving her a bath in our kitchen sink and reached for the shampoo. In that second she was on the floor and hurt her head. Another time she had either fallen or decided to try and jump off the couch and again hurt her head. Last night Grant and I are playing skip-bo..like usual, and Lucy had just gotten a chew treat and Lola must've tried to get it...well next thing you know we hear Lucy barking and see Lola on the ground with her tongue hanging out the side of her mouth. She was right next to the leg on of the table so we think she backed up just hard enough into it because I didn't feel Lucy move at all and she lays on my feet. We thought she was gone. Grant kept saying her name and trying to bring her to and it worked. I called a vet hospital and the vet there said as long as she keeps making improvement she'll be ok. Well she has done just that. Last night we couldn't even touch behind her left ear now today I can. She has been lethargic but can walk in a non-clumsy fashion. She does want me to hold her every second which is understandable after what she went through. Needless to say, Lucy will be starting some dog training on treat aggression. She is a GREAT dog in every other way just has been territorial on her treats. Grant and I do feel bad that she was an only dog for 4 years and now she's had to instantly share attention. I know many dogs do this but we cannot have it in our house with a 2 pound dog here. So I will be updating y'all on Lucy's progress progress.

American Idol review

So Grant and I and our neighbors watched Tuesdays American Idol last night. How on earth did that bikini girl get in besides the obvious! She really wasn't that cute with her pushed in nose and her attitude stunk let alone her voice! Do guys in the real world really only care about the superficial? I mean really doesn't a womans personality stand for anything? I'm glad I'm taken and would hate to have to compete in todays market by beauty and body. I sometimes feel that Grant and I are the lone and few who really beleive that beauty is only skin deep. When we discuss people on the market it honestly baffles us. So I took this American Idol review WAY to far. Until next week!
don’t bottle it up

The Earth Policy Institute estimates that it takes about 1.5 million barrels of oil to make the plastic water bottles Americans use each year, 77 percent of which end up in the landfill. Resolve to use a reusable container instead, and pair it with an at-home water filtration system.

My American Idol review so far

We have not watched Tuesday nights episode yet but have it recorded. Last night there were 3 people who got in that Grant and I agreed shouldn't have. One was the white guy with the hat on, the black guy who I believe was also wearing a hat and glasses, and a girl that I cannot think of a description at this point but was not that good! I beleive that these people will leave during Hollywood week but still don't understand why they even put them that far!

American Idol

Grant and I being the nerds we are, are very into American Idol and have been waiting since the last show for the new season! I'm so super excited it's finally here!

C'mon Giants!

I was dissapointed by the giants losing yesterday. I know many who I talked to who felt the same way. Is it because McNabb is a snubb ass? Probably so eh' Well, now that the Vikings and the Giants let me down I'll just have fun at my superbowl party eating apps and playing games!

E-Mail Quote of the week!

Future. That period of time in which our affairs prosper, our friends are true and our happiness is assured.

- Ambrose Bierce

We are approved by God, we don’t have to win the approval of others and look good in their eyes. We are not perfect people. Too many of us take ourselves too seriously and God not seriously enough.
|
-John C. Maxwell This week the quotes don't completely mesh together but both are relative to what I'm feeling this week. The first quote is true to me except our happiness is assured. I think that we tend to not let things bring us down as much when we get older. We know that as we age some things are pretty trivial in the grand scheme of things but I also believe things can happen to people that happiness isn't always going to be assured..Right. If happiness is a state of mind then I do beleive as we get older that bad things aren't going to rattle us as much as they might have because don't we just know that bad things are inevitable and do keep us grounded?.?.? I do beleive that friendships are so much more meaningful and people you do take on as friends are so much more true to us. I remember having friends for years then they would end over some silly little trivial thing that would not rattle me today nor would be worth ending a friendship over. I have to say that I love life more and more the older I get and I used to think it was this big scary thing. I enjoy having a little better grasp on things and my actions...except for the occasional slip ups The next quote oh so true for me. I worry a lot what people think of me. Many know I'm very over the top and can be a tish crazy....no, really it's true! I can get very embarrased by this myself believe it or not and have asked God so many times in my life to make me less annoying. Well again as I've gotten older I've naturally eased up but still have those "OH TRUDY" moments. I've learned to think of some of my craziness as a blessing that I can just let loose and am not afraid to let people know who I really am which I realize is not a fun thing for people who cannot. One thing that I care to much what people think is my home. I want it to be when people walk in they think to themselves "WOW, this girl keeps a clean home!" Is it really necessary..NO! I also want people to feel 100% comfortable. You all know the saying people don't come to see your home they come and see you..I totally beleive this and am comfortable in anyones home I just am scared people will judge me on my home and I'm crazy enough that I'm so scared I'll be judged on my home. Some of the time I spend being crazy clean I could try and focus some of that time on God eh' Hope everyone has a terrific week! Trudy

Green in the office

For Christmas I recieved a page a day calender and the calender has a link where one can go online and get a page a day of your choice everyday. I recieve the green version online and thought this was a good resource for people who work in an office setting and need these everday products. I will not buy certain eggs because they come in a styrofoam container. It's little things like this that we can make changes for the better!

paper, rock, scissorsRecycling only makes sense if consumers “close the loop” on the other end of the manufacturing process by buying products made from recycled materials. Offer to order the supplies for your office or department, and shop around to show you can save money, or at least spend the same amount. Don’t forget about paper towels and toilet paper.

I sure hope that whoever is the rightful winner of the MN Senate seat will comeout the winner in the end. This is really getting so nuts! I cannot beleive the money Hollywood loons have given to Al Franken. It's interesting to know that many people that voted for Obama in Mn did NOT vote for Franken.

Saturday Night Live alum and ex-Air America radio broadcaster Al Franken has raised more money than any of the other candidates for the U.S. Senate seat from Minnesota, including the Republican incumbent Norm Coleman. Now that the dollar numbers have been logged for the second quarter (April through June) of the past six months of fundraising, Franken has tapped Rosie O'Donnell, Bill Maher, Dan Aykroyd, Robin Williams, Ed Norton, Harold Ramis and Meg Ryan. That followed a first-quarter performance for the liberal comedian that included contributions from Tom Hanks, Paul Newman, Jason Alexander and Larry David. The AP says Franken's friends in the entertainment field helped catapult him to a "surprising" lead in second-quarter money: about $1.9 million, compared with only $1.6 million for Coleman, and $750,000 for other Democratic candidate Mike Ciresi. In fact, Coleman is using Franken's Hollywood connection as a GOP fundraising tool: In a letter to prospective contributors, Coleman wrote: "I need your help to fight back against Hollywood's liberal elite [who] sit atop the Democratic Party's elite clique of big benefactors." But Coleman, who is considered among the Republicans' most vulnerable incumbents, is relying on a more nefarious source of cash: political action committees, raising $367,000 from PACs in the second quarter. More than a dozen PACs have already given him $10,000, the maximum combined contribution for the primary and general election. By contrast, Franken raised just $11,000 in PAC money.
http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com/al-franken-no-joke-as-senate-candidate/
I also got my information from the drudge report and clicking on different newpapers.

Not to metion, David Letterman, George Clooney, Tom Cruise, John Travolta on and on...How is it that democrats always rag on republicans for being the money crazed and they are the ones winning because of money??? Again, I don't think much of Colman either and probably would've voted for him just to keep Franken out. Maybe I wouldn't have been able to vote who knows. I guess this country is already kinda turned into a joke so one more loon isn't going to damage us any more than we already are!

Nice quote I found

Whoever is happy will make others happy too.
— Anne Frank

Sorry Minnesota!

I cannot beleive anyone would vote for Al Franken. I'm not the biggest Norm Coleman fan either but AL FRANKEN PEOPLE??? I'm happy to not be associated with that vote!

Goodbye Myspace

Today I cancelled my myspace account. I really want to try and spend less time checking if I got new msgs etc. I feel by cutting out myspace I will spend less time on the computer..not that it was a huge problem in the first place. Woo Woo chug ah chug ah

Grant and I have a new found love for the game of mexican train dominoes. We learned how to play it from our neighbor Beth. We wanted it so bad for Christmas and Grant's parents came through for us! Want to learn how to play one of the most fun games...come visit and we'll teach you=)

E-mail Quote of the week

Nature gives you the face you have at 20; it is up to you to inherit the face you have at 50.
— Coco Chanel

"The first wealth is health."-Ralph Waldo Emerson

It's a new year and what is everyone wanting....to shed pounds of course. Well Grant and I are right there with y'all. We have let ourselves go to put in nicely. As I've mentioned we love to play games, drink lots of soda and snack while doing so. We have started making healthier choices in our everyday diets the past year. So today we went grocery shopping and our basket looked awesome! Grant is actually on the treadmill while I type this! With each other I really think we can do this. I've always taken advantage of my good health but as I do get older I do need to start helping my body age the way I want it. Hygenically speaking we've always taken great care of ourselves, now we have to take care of the health part. So I will keep you updated. I started a blog awhile ago that was going to be strictly green articles but now it's going to be everyday things including my quotes of the week. With that change came the change of the link as well. For those who visit me on myspace I will no longer have one after Wednesday. I just decided to do the blog thing and keep track of everyone by e-mail. Hope everyone is having a WONDERFUL new year. http://gerdiedaisy.blogspot

Go Giants!

So since I like to go on and on about nothing at all I do think this blog thing is best for me...especially with american idol coming up! Please don't tell me when I've spelled something wrong or haven't used proper grammer because really I'm doing this for fun and the mere fact that I'm so far away from all my friends (except the ones I made here in wi) and it's a good way for people to keep tabs on me=) since I'm not the best at calling on the phone. Please feel free to tell me how you feel about anything I write..I'm very open to any feedback...REALLY!
But for now I'd like to vent some anger about the vikings offense (or the lack of)! I'm now excited for the giants to beat some eagle butt! I've become a giants fan because I like the Manning boys. What nice sweet down to earth kids eh' At least when I root for the giants it is less likely I'll be dissapointed.
